Nature has the ability to purify pollution load on water through rivers, lakes, tributaries or wetlands. Therefore, there have been continued attempts to introduce artificial purification methods that mimic/improve nature¡¯s ability to purify over the past several decades. Artificial wetland treatment method is one of such attempts that is widely applied to treating pollution by flow especially various point pollution sources and non-point pollution sources including household sewage, agricultural wastewater, mining wastewater, etc. 
 
 
Recently, in industrialized countries such as the US, Japan, Germany, etc., it is an increasing trend to recognize artificial wetland as a one of the natural treatment techniques for urban sewage and there are various research activities on installation and ways to improve wetlands. In these countries they have a lot of wetland installation cases and abundant technology accumulated on design and operation/management. In contrast, there are only a few wetland applications and technology accumulations due to overall conditions such as limited land.
